Should we change the community name to Sanatana Dharma?

Off late, there are few discussions going on where traditional "Hindus" are getting hurt by modern "Hindus" and vice versa.
As we all know, the identity "Hindu" is not the identity, we as Hindus decided. It's imported.
The scriptures being discussed here are quite ancient compared to "Hinduism".

Indian supreme court doesn't identify "Hinduism" as a religion.

The 1995 judgement defined Hindutva or Hinduism as a "way of life" and nothing to do with "narrow fundamentalist Hindu religious bigotry".

"Dharma" is much more broader and is the only phrase which can accumulate all the scriptures here. "Dharma" is something which is every existent in its entirety. "Sanaatana" also means "forever". Should our site name be any of the following?

  • dharma.stackexchange.com (preferred because it lacks "aa" or "A")
  • sanaatana.stackexchange.com
  • sanaatanadharma.stachexchange.com

Our site is not graduated, hence it's not too late!

  • @KeshavSrinivasan, the revisiting of the posts should be allowed in meta. See this Can we revisit the sources required rule?. Besides, the proposal is with slightly different name but quite different reasons. The earlier proposal was for the reason of philosophy. The current proposal is for that philosophical reason as well as for welcoming all kinds of thinking. – iammilind Sep 20 '17 at 6:15

No Hinduism is far apt. The first 2 of ur name-proposals don't really make any sense to me but between santana dharma and hinduism i prefer the later because it is easily recognizable to both who follow the religion and those who don't. I am downvoting the post which shows my disapproval. – Rickross Sep 20 '17 at 9:30
  • "because it is easily recognizable to both who follow the religion and those who don't" @Rickross, this is where the most people get it wrong. Hence the name change is required. – iammilind Sep 20 '17 at 10:25
  • Anywhere on earth does anyone know Hinduism by those names ? Santana means Eternal , so what it has got to do with anything like religion? it can be anything that is eternal. Dharma means righteous. So Righteous.SE is what ur proposal is Now what does that even mean? – Rickross Sep 20 '17 at 10:28
  • No one should know "Hinduism = SanAtana Dharma", because it is not. Also, "Righteous" is a narrow translation of Dharma. Hence that's not the proposal either. Dharma is different than religion. Various religions help to explain Dharma to various people depending on their nature. In general, if this Qn reopens then you may post it as an answer to avoid prolonged discussion. In general, I have got your opinion and I respect everyone's opinion. Let's see what others think about it. – iammilind Sep 20 '17 at 10:49

If we are changing it, my vote is for sanatanadharma. sanaatana does not mean what we want it to for the purposes of the site and the word dharma has been appropriated and narrowed down by buddhism (with their dharma centers, practice of dharma etc.) – user1195 Sep 20 '17 at 11:57
  • @iammilind - I am too with Sanatan-Dharma name , but my concern is Popularity of the site after changing the name , because not much people on SE sites know what is Sanatan Dharma. – SwiftPushkar Sep 20 '17 at 15:08
  • @moonstar2001 - Agree with you ,what you think about using the word Hindu-Dharma instead of Hinduism in answer's. If all agree we can start it. But don't know is it ok to use this word or not. – SwiftPushkar Sep 20 '17 at 15:10
  • @SwiftPushkar, not many people are aware of Hinduism either. :-) The site popularity will not be hit much due to beta status. Sanatan is fine until we are fine with mis-pronunciation or add an extra 'a'. IMO "Dharma" & "Sanatan" are quite similar meanings. Possibly former is a superset of later. – iammilind Sep 20 '17 at 15:27
  • Ok , but what about users who will stop visiting just because of dislike of the name. It's ok for us but some of them also will misinterpret the name as site related to Hindutava ,I mean like extremists Hindu site Or not much open to ousiders site etc. Even what i fear is the mass of users from Stack overflow who are currently visiting here (at least in HNQ) will stop. – SwiftPushkar Sep 20 '17 at 15:33
  • But still we can slowly inform all aft.name change also. Lets see what others feel. – SwiftPushkar Sep 20 '17 at 15:34
  • @SwiftPushkar don't you think that current name is more likely to give impression of hardliner Hindutva? In any case, the right name is always important for an entity. To have "Right name" is "Dharma", hence name should have Dharma! :-) – iammilind Sep 20 '17 at 15:37
