There has already been some discussion of this issue here:

Should we remove or limit the use of the "belief" tag?

However, the question was finally left unresolved, and it looks like no real action was taken. Currently it seems that this tag doesn't add anything to the questions which contain it, and there's inconsistency in the way that it's being used.

I believe that we should remove this tag or replace it with one that better captures the meaning used by the majority of taggers, as one answerer suggested here.

I realize that it's weird for me to be bringing up an issue that's already been discussed here before, but I really do believe that it's in the best interests of this site to resolve this matter once and for all.

Thanks for bringing this up again, I have answered on that question already, the belief tag is not the issue, the issue is that the tag is used by users for every question where it isn't required. For the suggestion you linked, meaning of belief and philosophy is different so I cannot rename the tag blindly. Still I will look into this matter soon. – Mr. Alien Aug 21 '14 at 5:33
  • @Mr.Alien Thanks. I too am not sure if "Philosophy" itself is the best tag to merge with, but I'm sure we can come up with something similar that better portrays how the tag is being used. – Akshay Aug 21 '14 at 18:10
  • I often ping users who use the belief tag in a wrong way, but soon I will raise a meta post or it would be better if someone quiet knowledgeable posts instead of me. – Mr. Alien Aug 21 '14 at 18:15
